Blahník by Boman

A Photographic Conversation

Eric Boman
Manolo Blahník

‘Dazzling … a wonderful book and destined to become a collector’s item … full of history and rich with reference; it is quirky and witty…’
– Vogue

‘Positively creaks with the weight of stylistic references … lavishly presented, unencumbered by text …
also very funny’
– The Independent Magazine

‘Don’t miss it … Eric Boman’s appreciation of the Shoemaker King is suitably sumptuous’
– Tatler

‘Manolo’s work is his response to life. This book is my response to that.’ With these words, renowned photographer Eric Boman sums up his extraordinary collaboration with legendary shoe designer Manolo Blahník. They have been friends since 1970.

In over 165 breathtaking photographs, Blahník’s exquisitely detailed, unabashedly luxurious and impossibly sexy shoes take centre stage in a fabulous array of settings. Boman’s unerring eye and uncanny empathy with Blahník’s creativity make for spellbinding and wickedly amusing pictures, which also allude to the collaborators’ many shared and eclectic influences, from the cinema to history, from the natural world to art and literature.

Witty, playful, beautiful, totally unique, this book, complete with entertaining snippets of conversation between Blahník and Boman, and an introduction by their great friend Paloma Picasso, is a remarkable visual dialogue between two outstandingly creative talents. For any shoe lover, it will be just as covetable as a pair of ‘Manolos’.

Manolo Blahník opened his first shoe shop in 1971. Famous for his sense of theatricality, use of fine materials and superlative craftsmanship, he has achieved legendary status in the world of fashion, and has been the recipient of many prestigious awards. Eric Boman made his name as a fashion photographer of distinction and he moved to New York, where his work has been published in Vogue, Vanity Fair, The World of Interiors and House & Garden among many others.
