Widely known for his much-reproduced painting 'The Scream', Edvard Munch, the great Norwegian painter, was pioneer of an art which depicted the conflicts of modern man.
The initiator of the movement known as Expressionism, Munch's early work was greeted with indignation, incomprehension and abuse, but he achieved recognition and was considered a leader of the new art.
