Glenn Murcutt

Building + Projects 1962 - 2003

Françoise Fromonot

‘Sets the standard for excellence in architecture publishing’
– The Architectural Review

Australian architect Glenn Murcutt has attracted unprecedented international attention in recent years. He was the winner of the Pritzker Prize in 2002, and is one of only seven architects ever to have been awarded the Alvar Aalto Medal.

This major monograph, the most complete and up-to-date volume available on the architect, spans Murcutt’s entire career, from the early modernist houses to his most recent commissions in the 21st century.

His buildings, which are principally residential, are a harmonious blend of modernist sensibility, local craftsmanship, indigenous structures and respect for nature. At a time when climatic considerations and the lessons of the vernacular play an increasing role in architecture around the world, this definitive monograph reveals an architect whose work is the perfect expression of those ideals.

Françoise Fromonot is an architect and co-editor of the French architectural review Le Visiteur. She teaches at the École d’Architecture de Paris La Villette. Her previous publications include Marc Mimram: Solferino Bridge, Jørn Utzon: The Sydney Opera House, for which she was awarded the 1999 Prix du Livre, and Glenn Murcutt: Works and Projects.
