Lanna Thailand's Northern Kingdom
Michael Freeman
| The country now known as Thailand only achieved its present form in the nineteenth century. Before then for over five hundred years there flourished the independent kingdom of Lanna (‘one million rice fields’), stretching north from Phitsanulok as far as Chieng Rai, as far east as present-day Laos and as far west as Burma.
Over the centuries the kingdom developed fascinating and distinctive art, architecture, language and culture, many elements of which still endure, and all of which are explored in this lavishly illustrated book.
Michael Freeman is an internationally renowned photographer and writer. His travels in Northern Thailand over the past twenty years have allowed him to gain an unrivalled knowledge of this multi-faceted region.
