Splendours of the Ancient Andes Maria Longhena Walter Alva
| This lavishly illustrated book tells the stories of the civilizations that succeeded one another high up on the dry plateaus and snowy peaks of the Andes between 3000 BC and AD 1533, the year that brought the collapse of the Inca world.
Chapters1 and 2 outline the Nazca, Moche and ChimĂș cultures and describe the daily lives of the Incas. Chapter 3 is an exploration of their arts and crafts, in particular weaving and metalwork, but also touching on aspects of Inca religion, and society. The last part of the book considers the most interesting sites, from the pyramids of the coastal centres to the amazing stone Inca cities, and discusses the related cultures of Bolivia, Ecuador and Colombia. At the end of this section Professor Walter Alva presents the extraordinary treasure found in Sipan.
This is a wonderful volume for anyone with an interest in ancient cultures, particularly those of South America.
