Apocalypse

Beauty and Horror in Contemporary Art
(in slipcase)

Introduction by Norman Rosenthal
With essays by Michael Archer
Michael Bracewell
James Hall
Nathan Kernan
Photographs by Norbert Schoerner

Apocalypse accompanied one of the 2000’s most exciting art events. Concentrating on themes inspired by the coming of the 21st century, this internationally significant show brought together installations, paintings, sculptures and videos, many specially created for the exhibition, by thirteen artists at the vanguard of modern art, among whom are Darren Almond, Jake and Dinos Chapman, Angus Fairhurst, Mariko Mori, Richard Prince and Wolfgang Tillmans.
For this catalogue, the talented young photographer Norbert Schoerner photographed the artists at work in their studios. Norman Rosenthal, curator of the exhibition, outlines his vision of the arts at the turn of the century, and penetrating essays on each artist have been provided by Michael Archer, Michael Bracewell, James Hall and Nathan Kernan. Destined to elicit enormous attention, Apocalypse is an essential purchase for the growing legions of contemporary art fans.
Norman Rosenthal is Exhibitions Secretary at the Royal Academy of Arts.
